Today we have the pleasure of chatting with Samardo Samuels, who has signed by Real Betis Energía Plus for next season 2017/2018.

Q: Samardo, a few days ago you signed for Real Betis Energy Plus to play in the ACB in the 2017/2018 season. Tell us how was the possibility of returning to Spain.

A: The possibility of coming back to Spain to be honest I didn’t think it was going to happen. We couldn’t find a job in Europe anywhere after my china season.


Q: We would like to know what is the day-to-day life of a player of your level while you are waiting in the summer to have a team. How do you prepare daily until you sign up for a club?

A: This season we just training and pray really for a job. I love the game, and I know I’m a great human being but when I’m on the court I’m even better.


Q: As you know, Real Betis (after a series of legal problems) has won a place in the ACB League. Was your contract contingent on playing in ACB or would you have agreed to come to Spain to play the LEB League?

A: I just like the ACB basketball is one of my many job that I’m doing right now. I just love competing at the highest level. If I had to go low I was much rather stay in China, but I like the ACB.


Q: Your contract is only for one season. Would you have liked to sign for more years or was it your decision?

A: One is ok. I’m Greatful and I just want to do my best.


Q: Over the summer, did you receive more offers from other teams? If so, why have you opted for the Betis?

A: Yes, actually Betis called me minutes before to sign a Japan contract. I was really excited about the coach calling me.


Q: Alejandro Martínez is going to be your new coach. I would like to know if you have already talked to him, and if he tells you what is going to be your role and how you can contribute to the team.

A: Coach seems like a straight up guy and I’m excited to be apart of what he looking to accomplish.


Q: Due to legal problems, the club has had problems signing players. Do you already know your new partners?

A: I have meet anyone yet but let we all know nothing is straight forward.


Q: Honestly, what are your expects for this new season?

A: The best is yet to come you have to see, but the most important is to win for the fans.


Q: You already know Spain, because a few years ago you played at the Barcelona Lassa. Do you have a good memory of our country ?. What do you like most about Spain.

A: I’m so excited. Spain is just amazing. Great food and a lot of similarities to Jamaica.


Q: I don’t know if you like soccer, but in Sevilla there is a strong rivalry between the two teams, Sevilla and Betis … Which team will you support?

A: Betis for sure. I’m a big fan already.
